Sony DSC-N1, still one of the best?

    Greetings,

Well, I've owned an 85mm Zeiss Diascope for two years now, and I have taken part in some handheld digiscoping with an old 3MP Fuji camera. And, I have had some very good results with that setup. However this camera is getting old, and the motors are having a hard time focusing and what not.  Its time to purchase a new camera, specifically for digiscoping.  I have a Nikon D80 and have condisered the DSLR connector, but since this renders the scope useless (while connected) for birding, and designates the scope only for photography and the camera only for digiscoping, I have decided against digiscoping in that fashion, therefore I'm attempting to learn as much as possible about the N and W series Sony cameras.  Can anyone still recommend the N1 as a fine digiscoping camera?  Is the touch screen one of the best features that points folks to this camera?

So, I guess I'm wondering two things.

    1. Can anyone with hindsight and experience with the small Sony cameras (W & N) series, still recommend any of the N or W series cameras?  Let me know what you liked about the camera that you have (W or N series) and help me decide on one of these gadgets.  I notice that the N2 gets some unfavorable reviews in other locations on the web.  Are there any other digiscopers out there who  use a N2 and love it?  How about the W Series?  What works best for you, and why?

Thanks in advance, I'm really on the fence here.

I still use my N1 regularly and find the results more than satisfactory. If the N2 detractors are sighting "image quality" issues...remember that you are enlarging the image by the factor of the spotting scope power, which allow just about maximum image quality from any given sensor. It is the same effect you get shooting digital macros. Image quality is almost never an issue with macro work because the subject fills so much of the frame. Same with digiscoping at reasonable distances.

I know folks who are using W series cameras and hopefully some of them will reply.
